I loved this book too! I tend to follow the crowd - unlike you, so haven't heard of a lot of the books you've read. I'm going to have a browse round your site to see if I can find some different books to read!
Thanks for some great reviews!
JackieAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07698068501004755678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807369122559702185.post-65060671317061691092008-07-19T10:27:00.000-04:002008-07-19T10:27:00.000-04:00Oooh I loved this book as well. It really affected me because I read it right as I was putting my grandmother into her own assisted living facility. So I probably cried more than I should. I also finished it in about 3 days.kellyraehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13796629343350801795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807369122559702185.post-47903656849250090632008-05-31T22:40:00.000-04:002008-05-31T22:40:00.000-04:00lisamm - I totally get you! The treatment of the elephant is the worst, but that comes from one character and is more a manifestation of HIS evil nature than anything else.

I don't know if you've read Life of Pi, but the animal cruelty described in that book is FAR worse that what you find here.

Does that answer your question?Heather J. @ TLC Book Tourshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10474181812740579350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807369122559702185.post-29893138799508117032008-05-28T11:27:00.000-04:002008-05-28T11:27:00.000-04:00Thanks for all the great comments! Here's what I have to say about it:

Yes, there are some descriptive scenes - not explicit sex, but sexual scenes. If you don't want to read anything with details then don't read this. Personally, this didn't bother me. I didn't feel that it was gratuitous; rather it made sense where it was placed.

Hope that helps!Heather J. @ TLC Book Tourshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10474181812740579350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807369122559702185.post-25712792689074752322008-05-28T11:14:00.000-04:002008-05-28T11:14:00.000-04:00I think I'm pretty much the only person in the wor...I think I'm pretty much the only person in the world who hasn't read this book yet! The treatment of animals was horrible. I hated to think about how circus's were run back then and probably still are in many parts of the world.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807369122559702185.post-30464136053600658082008-05-28T10:40:00.000-04:002008-05-28T10:40:00.000-04:00I've avoided this one because I'm not sure I could...I've avoided this one because I'm not sure I could deal with the treatment of the animals.
