Friday Finds 10/08/10
It has been months since I've participated in Friday Finds and my poor TBR list is in withdrawl. See, what I do is make a note of all the new books I want to read, but then I don't actually put them on the TBR list until I've mentioned them on Friday Finds. At present I have over 30 books to talk about! But don't worry, I won't include them all in this post. (I can hear your sigh of relief from here.)
Without further ado, here are 8 titles that have caught my eye over the past few months:
My Quotable Kid: A Parents' Journal of Unforgettable Quotes - this is more of a gift item, but it's one that I want to remember to buy for several friends- found at 5 Minutes For Books
I LEGO N.Y., by Christopher Niemann - how could you NOT love that book?! - found at Alison's Book Marks
The Last Christian, by David Gregory - takes place in 2088, when a woman returning to the United States finds that Christianity has died out - found at Book Journey
Bog Child, by Siobhan Dowd - set in 1981 Ireland when the country is still dealing with The Troubles - found at Beth Fish Reads
A Hundred Feet Over Hell, by Jim Cooper - highly recommended Vietnam book - found at Savvy Verse and Wit
The Tiger, by John Vaillant - this is the book I am MOST excited about - it's the true story of a poacher who tried to kill a tiger and how the tiger then began stalking him - found at Books on the Nightstand
The Gendarme, by Mark Mustain - the cover of this one is what caught my attention, but the story sounds amazing - found at Amy Reads

Hooray for The Tiger and The Gendarme! They all look good, but those are both awesome :D
Amy - You know, I really do like you and all, but I need to stop reading your blog - you're becoming the bane of my TBR list! ~LOL~ Just wait until you see how many MORE books I've added b/c of you ...
Hehehe, if it makes you feel any better, you add a lot to mine too. I could show you my wishlist on BookMooch as proof ;)
Or maybe just the stack of Wheel of Time books that you helped convince me to re-read!!!
Amy - Ok, since I've convinced you on The Wheel of Time I'll consider us even. :)
Nice choices! Definitely agree on that LEGO book..how CAN you not like it? Three cheers for ever increasing TBR Lists! Hip Hip HURRAY! ^_^
A Hundred Feet Over Hell is on my wish list too, as well as The Gendarme. I haven't been doing as good a job of writing down wish list books lately. I need to remember to do that.
Tose books sound good. I've only heard of THe Last Christian though.
Excellent list. The Lego book is charmingly clever.
If you like The Gendarme, you might also like Blood-Dark Track: A Family History by Joseph O'Neill. It tells of how he traces the stories of his grandfathers - one a Syrian Christian living in southern Turkey who was interned by the British & French during World War Two - the other an IRA man interned by the Irish authorities in the 1940s. I really enjoyed it.
The Gendarme! That is one I have had my eye on too.
GMR - Yeah, who DOESN'T like LEGOs?!
Alyce - I went through a period where I refused to write any new titles down b/c my TBR was so out of control, but now I figure it doesn't matter anyway. LOL
Nikki-ann - Welcome! Thanks for coming by! The Last Christian is a bit different than what I usually read but it sounds really good, don't you think?
blackwatertown - Thanks! You always have great book suggestions - I'll definitely look into that one.
bookjourney - I'm really excited about that one.
I have got to get that "quote" book -- it sounds fabulous!
Am reading "Stronger than Sin" by Caridad Pineiro, a great paranormal romance AND thriller book that involves elements of sci-fi and medical suspense, all in one book. There's even genetic engineering -- thought-provoking and entertaining both.
Liz - I think it would make a great gift!
