Giving up on another book ...

I've tried, really I have, but FICTION, by Ara 13, just isn't the right book for me at the moment. It is not actually bad though, which is part of the problem. Rather, it is strange and slow-building and somewhat confusing ... and at the moment I need simple, entertaining, and interesting.

The book has 227 pages and I've read 44 of them - enough for me to say "I quit" I'd say.

Sorry this didn't work for you.

Yep, 44 pages is plenty for a book of that length.

It's always hard to know when to quit (at least for me) but it sounds like you gave it a fair shot.

I'm reading a self-pub right now that's 500 pages long, and I'm just not sure about it yet. I'm about 75 pages in and I'm not really into the story. It also has some crude subject matter and swearing and that's not my favorite. Other than that, the story line isn't too bad, so I'm hoping it will pick up soon. I'm thinking maybe another 50 pages before I make up my mind.

I was supposed to receive this from the author and never did. I'm sorry that it was so confusing and slow...but I think I may be grateful that I didn't get it.

It took me a bit to get into Ara13's DRAWERS AND BOOTHS, but once the metafiction kicked in it took off for me.

Maybe you'll want to pick this up another time. In the meantime, what's next on your list?

These things happen. I remember the first time I attempted The Shipping News; I cursed the fragments and shelved the book. Four years later, I retried it and breezed right through what is now one of my favorite novels. Perhaps in the future, my novel will catch you at the right time.

Serena, I may have mislabeled the mailing; it takes awhile for my errors to be sent back to me. I will double check my mailings and see where I goofed. Sorry for that. Thanks. Ara

Ara - Thanks for understanding. I WILL give this a try again sometime, but it just wasn't connecting for me right now.

Dawn - I've picked up THE LOST MEN, which is a non-fiction about the lesser known Ross Sea Party portion of Shackleton's Antarctic Expedition in the early 1900s. It's been on my shelf for a while and I've really wanted to read it. So far it is fascinating!

Hmm, I'd be a little suspicious of anything written by someone with a number in their name!
