Kiddo and I loved reading the first Percy Jackson book together so we were very excited to go see the movie on opening night (Feb. 12). What did we think of it? You'll have to check out my guest post at 5 Minutes for Books to find out!
Hop on over there to see what we thought, then leave a comment either there or here letting me know what YOU think. Have you seen the movie? What did you think of it? Do you plan to see it? Have you read the book? I want to know!

Heather, glad to hear that you and kiddo liked the movie. I have read all the books and really enjoyed them. I recommended them right and left to kids and adults. I'm looking forward to the movie but know that I will wait until it comes out on DVD. I'm just too addicted to watching it at home on my big screen. :-)
Logan loved reading it and we are going to the movie this Saturday! He is ready for book #5...
I went to see this opening night and was pleasantly surprised as well. I thought this film kicked the Potter films' bottoms. I was a bit taken aback by the change in the nature of the gods, but I was pleasantly surprised by the change in the ages. I can't wait for the next one!
Love, love, love the books, and I liked the movie, but I wasn't nuts about it. The mass rewrite of much of the plot annoyed me.
I was prepared for the age difference because I noticed it in the preview and IMDBed the actor and found out that he is eighteen! That is a long ways from twelve. I think that is my biggest beef with it. Overall though it was entertaining and I had fun watching it. What more can you ask for?
The Girl wants to see this movie, but I wasn't sure, so I'm glad to see you both enjoyed it. I know that we'll have to see it at some point, especially since you said there are scary, creepy creatures. She'll love those!

Kay - I'm sure we'll be watching on DVD when it is available too. :)
Kelly - I can't wait to see what he thinks of it!
Trisha - So glad you enjoyed it too!
Ruth - I think I was expecting the changes, so I wasn't as disappointed as I could have been. Plus it had been months since we read the book, so that helped. :)
amy - My thoughts exactly.
Anna - I hope you BOTH enjoy it!
We just saw the movie this past weekend and I really enjoyed it. Of course, I didn't remember details from the book, so there wasn't much "they got it wrong!" moments for me. The effects were great, the kid was cute... what more do I need? :)
I enjoyed the movie but I love the book. Riordan's wit and hip writing style just can't be captured on cinema. Plus he makes Greek mythology so interesting that one is enticed to learn more about it. The movie just doesn't do that.
Suey - "what more do I need?" That is my feeling exactly. I wasn't expecting wonders from the movie, just to be entertained, and I was.
josbookshelf - I think I enjoyed the movie so much because I thought the books were just ok, not great. But that's just my opinion. :)
