Remembering Summer (#1)

Kiddo in the waves at Ocean City, Maryland
September 2010

This was the first time we'd been to the beach since Kiddo had his feeding tube put in last year.  We weren't sure if the sand would irritate the area around the tube so we gave Kiddo the choice of picking a different (non-beach) vacation spot.  He voted to go to the beach anyway. So we covered the tube with several layers of gauze and taped it up really good, then sent him off to play.  It didn't end up keeping ALL the sand out but it did a good enough job, and Kiddo said the tube wasn't irritated.  Yay!

The waves weren't huge but the riptide was killer.  We found out later that this was due to a hurricane hundreds of miles to the south.  The weather was fantastic though, and we had lots of fun making sandcastles and digging trenches for the water to surround them.  I LOVE THE BEACH!

You are obviously doing a wonderful job of raising a terrific kid: not afraid to tackle anything and not letting his feeding tube (etc) get in the way of enjoying life to its fullest.

I love photos of kids playing in the ocean!

Heather, you have got to be the strongest woman I've met in a long time. I'm so glad that Kiddo had a great time at the beach! You have a beautiful little boy!

What an incredible photo -- I only recently (a couple of months ago) started to follow your blog, so I spent the past 30 minutes reading all of the prior posts to see what occurred to prompt the feeding tube. I'm so amazed by all of this -- and I think you and your family are absolutely, absolutely incredible! Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us!

And it's Ocean City -- who wouldn't want to choose the beach?! :) I grew up outside of Baltimore, and then went to school at University of Maryland, College Park, so it's good to read about fellow Marylanders! :) (I live in North Florida now).

Helen's Book Blog - Thanks so much. :) I can't take credit for a lot of it though - Kiddo is simply an easy-going child who doesn't let his disorder stop him from being a kid. He makes me a very proud Mama!

Laura - *hugs* Thanks. We did have a wonderful beach weekend, and Kiddo IS a cutie (at least in my unbiased opinion! LOL).

Coffee and a Book Chick - It's been a crazy journey but I do enjoy posting about it here. You have no idea how many people have found my site because they are looking for info on this disorder, feeding tube surgery, etc. If I can help anyone else through a similar situation, I'm VERY HAPPY to do it. [And YAY for (former) fellow Marylanders! It's always fun to find bloggers who know the area and have fond memories of it.]
