Can you believe it is Friday already? This week has flown by for me. Between the icy weather, kiddo coming down with croup, and the nasty cold that is stalking me, you'd think the week would have dragged ... but noooo, it just flew by. Anyhoo ...
Here's what landed on my TBR list this week:
- The Time Machine, by HG Wells - this is a classic that I can't believe I've overlooked, and Nymeth's review reminded me of it. I also enjoy adaptations of Wells's books but I don't think I've ever read any of them. Hopefully I'll love him as much as I love Jules Verne.
- From Seed to Harvest, by Octavia Butler - tor.com posted recently about this collection of Butler's four "Patternist" books. Their overview was EXCELLENT and really peaked my interest in this sci-fi series. It went on my PBS Wish List immediately.
- Out of Africa, by Isak Dinesen - after rewatching the movie version I simply MUST read the book. Karen Blixen (who wrote as Isak Dinesen) was a fascinating woman living in a fascinating time, and this is the story of her life. I have not read The Time Machine either. Loved the movie Out of Africa. Of course anything with Meryl Streep and/or Robert Redford is worth watching IMHO.
I really loved Out of Africa the book -- and the movie (which I've seen a zillion times).
Kenya in the early 20th century was an interesting place -- those ex-pats were a wild bunch.
I also added The Time Machine to my list this week, thanks to Nymeth!

I read The Time Machine with my husband a few years ago when the movie came out. Good list!
Nise' - I totally agree, and they are GREAT in this movie.
Beth - Have you read Don't Lets Go To The Dogs Tonight? It is a fabulous memoir set in Rhodesia and it has some ex-pat craziness as well, but of the more dangerous type.

Octavia Butler is amazing. I have most of her books (haven't read them all yet.) Working on Seed to Harvest right now actually and it's wonderful. Her short stories are great too!
