January '09 Summary

I can't believe it is time to summarize my January reading already. Where did the month go?!

Since we're starting off a new year, I'm going to make a small change to my monthly summaries. In addition to the recap I'm also going to let you know which were my favorite reads of the month. Sound good? Ok, here we go.

Books - 5 (1,669 pages)

Short Story/Essay - 1 (8 pages)

Audio Books - 3 (33.75 hours)

Books I Stopped Reading
My favorites this month were Interpreter of Maladies and The Thirteenth Tale. I highly recommend both of those; the first will make you really think and really feel, and the story in the second will completely suck you in.

Looking back, I see that I've been listening to more audio books than usual. That's because I've been browsing the library's online catalog and ordering anything that looks even remotely interesting. I've met with (mostly) success so far so I think I'll continue with that plan for a while. Plus I'm in the car for 40 minutes each day so it doesn't take long to work through even lengthy audio books.

I've been reading "real" books a lot this month as well but I haven't finished two of them so they won't appear until February's list is compiled. Oh well, that's how it goes.

How did YOUR month go?

My month was really productive, 10 books read. Even February is shaping up OK with two books read already.

I've never really listened to audio books. I wonder about them sometime, especially when it's the author reading the stories aloud, but I guess I don't spend enough time in any sort of commute to justify them.

I read Interpreter of Maladies last year and loved it. I tried reading The Namesake last week though and found it wasn't the right book for me at the time.

Looks like you had a good month! Hope Feb. is just as good to you.

I'm amazed by all these monthly recaps I keep seeing around the book blogs. I am totally not this organized!

Where did January go, indeed?!?

I have noticed that you've been reading more audiobooks :)

I like reading the month wrap-ups, too, but I haven't added it to my routine yet!

My January was good - 14 books.

Audio books have the tendancy to make me fall asleep, so not so good for my drives.

Wow, I feel like such a slacker. I think I finished two books that I started in 2008, and I read two other books, maybe three, I'm not sure where my last book fell. That's it!

Michelle - have you watched the movie version of The Namesake? I'm wondering if it is any good ...

Anna - thanks!

Serena - Actually, that was the whole purpose of my blog - to keep track of what I read - so this is essential for me.

Dawn - yeah, I'm taking better advantage of my commute ... I'd been listening to music for a few months and getting bored with it.

Lenore - 14 is great!

Dreamybee - well, that's how it goes sometimes. Hopefully Feb. will be better for you.

Whew. Now I don't feel as bad for only reading two books this past month. ;) Of course, I didn't listen to all the audio books. Was the Jeeves Collection good? Who does the voices for that?

unfinishedperson - I wasn't so thrilled with the Jeeves Collection, at least not compared with the "regular" audio book versions of other Jeeves books I'd listened to previously. As I mentioned in my review, this was a BBC adaptation (which SHOULD means that it is good) but the regular audio book narrator did a much better job IMO.
