Kiddo's Vlog Update

In case you missed my last post, Kiddo is getting a feeding tube on 9/29. Here's Kiddo to tell you about all this himself. And he wants to share his evil plan for our overnight stay at the hospital ...

Gotta love Kiddo!

The surgery to put the feeding tube in is pretty fascinating ... creepy, but fascinating. If you don't want to know the details SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH! What they'll do is take the endoscopy tool with the camera on the end of it and tie a wire to the end of it. They'll send the tube and wire down his throat into his stomach. Then they will insert a needle from the outside of his stomach through into the inside of his stomach. The wire will then be pulled out through that needle hole. At this point, the wire is coming out of his stomach and out of his throat. They will then tie the feeding tube to the wire coming out of his throat and start pulling on the part coming out of his stomach. They'll keep pulling until all the wire - and the feeding tube attached to it - is sticking out of the needle hole from his stomach. So there is no cutting involved! The tube will be held in his stomach by a round plastic piece the size of a quarter. Like I said, fascinating, but creepy.

As you can see in the video, Kiddo is doing pretty good on the whole. Thank you so much to everyone who has commented both here and on Facebook - your support means a great deal to my family.

If you have any questions I'm more than happy to answer them so please ask.

And now I'm off to clean the house while Kiddo and Hubby are at the Caps game. Oh joy.

Thanks for sharing this video with us, Heather. Kiddo is great and his hair ROCKS! I hope he gets to watch lots of cartoons and the whole thing is painless and easy. I'll be thinking of you both next week.

I worked at a children's hospital for three years (I have no medical expertise myself--I was a unit coordinator), and while I'm sure you will be nervous, remember that they do this all the time.

Good luck Kiddo! (and I hope you had fun at the game...I'm a Red Wings fan, myself!)

All - Thanks so much! As you can see, he's doing pretty good with all this. And his hair IS great, isn't it?! The three colors were his idea. :)

JT - To be honest, I'm really not concerned about the surgery, it just gives me the creeps if I think about it too much. I trust the doctors and I know they'll take good care of him.

Oh, and one more thing to JT - The Red Wings are Kiddos 2nd (or 3rd?) favorite team!

Kiddo ~ you (and your hair) ROCK! Your sweet spirit just blesses my heart.
Please make sure to let me know when you're ready for some BK fries ~ it would be my pleasure to treat you to some!
Glad to hear that the Red Wings are in your top three.

You are going to have to start a Fan page for Kiddo. Seriously. He's just too cute and all the nurses and doctors are going to go out of their way to make him comfortable just because he's so darn cute.

Also, it was nice to hear your voice. It was nothing like I imagined but it's neat because now I can put a voice to the words.

Tell Kiddo that first of all, he has great taste in music ;) Second of all, his hair rocks! And finally, he's one brave little guy. All the best to both of y'all!! I'm sure that "every little thing is gonna be alright" ;) I'll keep you all in my thoughts!!

Marie - Kiddo says to tell you that the Red Wings are #2, the San Jose Sharks are #3, and the Dallas Stars are #4. :)

Ti - Seriously, Kiddo needs his OWN blog at this point. :) Hopefully I'll have actual video of me with all the bloggers who are coming to the DC/Maryland area this weekend - then you can hear AND see us.

Chris - Thanks, I'll give him your message!

That's good that he likes the Wings...and of course, you have to root for your hometown team first and foremost.

I agree with Ti - Kiddo needs his own blog! He's a natural!

Best to all of you this coming week; it's great to see his super spirit :)

Just wanted to stop in and say good luck today! I know Kiddo will be very brave, but I bet it's going to be a long day for everyone, especially since he has an evil plan to keep you awake! ;)

Love him! I loved hearing him sing the Bob Marley song. He can obviously hear the music in his head! :)
