Age 30+ ... A Lifetime of Books: 2009's 1% Well Read Challenge List

Who AM I?

That's a good question ... I'm a daughter, a wife, a mother, a sister, a friend ... and there's so much more! But for the purpose of this blog I am a first and foremost a reader.

When I was in the first grade I read The Hobbit and my love of Fantasy took root. By the time I left elementary school I had completed the entire series as well as The Belgariad by David Eddings. Seventh grade brought me the beginning of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series ... which is still not complete. High school and college introduced me to the classics and to history. My reading disappeared for several years when I had a child. Then I started a book club and it came back in full force.

Today I read anything that catches my eye ... at the moment that includes historical fiction, fantasy, literary fiction, and any titles I find interesting. I'm always on the lookout for the next great find ... any suggestions?

2009's 1% Well Read Challenge List

I've already started on this challenge - finished one book in fact - and I haven't even announced that I'm joining. It is high time to remedy that.

Castle Rackrent, by Maria Edgeworth

Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley

The Last of the Mohicans, by James Fenimore Cooper

The Charterhouse of Parma, by Stendhal

The Lion of Flanders, by H. Conscience

Cranford, by Elizabeth Gaskell

All of these titles are from the 1700s and 1800s. I figured I'd go for a theme this year - really old books!

I just randomly picked books...I am living in Turkey so I only have access to books that are in the uni library. I just wrote a bunch of names down from the list and then saw which ones they had available. It made my reading really interesting.

I joined again this year but haven't read anything yet. Good luck with Last of the Mohicans..I read it a few years back and almost gave up on reading afterwards. But I can say I am glad I read it.; March 27, 2009 at 8:31 AM
