Rules for a Book Club?

In my book club I'm known as "The Book Club Madam" for all the behinds the scenes work and leadership roles I handle.

Click here to read my post over at ReadingGroupGuides.com about the rules we recently set for our club. I'd love to hear what you think about them!

(The date of my post was Aug. 20, so you may have to scroll down a bit.)

Heather, I liked your rules. They were simple yet not too restrictive. The groups I moderate at my library are fun. The afternoon one is large, really too large, but we can't really limit members because the library sponsors it. I just don't advertise it anymore. The evening mystery one is small and very friendly. I have very little moderating to do. We have a once a year "Best of...." meeting in December with food. I decided to do that when I started the groups because I knew how hard it was to get a book read with holiday stuff but then again, everyone usually has some extra goodies available at that time of year. It's worked well the 1 time we've had it. Ha!

I went ahead and left a comment. :-)

I've got a post coming up on RGG soon, too. I think I should have edited it a little more (or should I say, revised), but ah well. C'est la vie.

Our neighborhood book group has a rule I hadn't considered before ... that the book be available in paperback. The suggestion was that aside from cutting expsenses (for those that buy the book), there would be more books in circulation (for those who choose to borrow from the library).

The only negative I can see with this "rule" is that many may have already read the book months/years before it is chosen for discussion. I don't mind re-reading a book, but some might ...
