I'm barely back from vacation, only beginning to sort through emails and blog posts, and what do I see but a new post with shocking news over at The Hidden Side of a Leaf: Dewey, author of that amazing blog, passed away yesterday.
I'm really in shock. I knew she had health problems but I didn't know they were this serious.
Dewey's blog is one of the first I ever visited and it's through her that I found many of the blogs I read today. She's the creator of the first weekly event I signed up for - one I still love - called Weekly Geeks. The posts I did for the WGs are some of my favorite posts on my blog. She also ran the Read-a-Thon, which I always said I'd do "next time" ...
It's such a shock to me that she is no longer here.
Since I'd already done the "Mark All As Read" thing with the (over 1,000) posts the accumulated in my Google Reader while I was gone, I decided to go visit Dewey's blog and see what she posted that I might have missed. Low and behold, she posted a review of one of my favorite books and answered a question I posed to her a while back. I'm thinking of it as one last virtual hug from my great online friend.

Weekly Geeks was the first thing I signed up for, and the way I met so many book bloggers. I was really shocked when I came across her husband's post yesterday as I was clearing out of Google Reader.

It's so sad. I also passed on the most recent readathon and told myself I'd do the next one. It just won't be the same now.

I only ever did one weekly geeks and the read-a-thons were always times I couldn't do them. But I loved to read her blog and just can't believe she's really gone...
